Science for the Future

24 Sep, 2018

For the second year running, HSL welcomed students from the London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF) to the Halo

LIYSF is an annual two week enrichment programme for students aged 16 to 21 with a passion for science. 500 budding young scientists from over 65 countries worldwide attended this year’s event, which had the underlying theme of ‘Science for the Future’.

With lecture demonstrations from leading scientists and visits to world class research centres and industrial sites, students were invited to explore what the scientific and technological landscape will look like in 10, 50, and even 100 years from now.

Part of the programme included a visit to HSL’s flagship laboratory, the Halo, where students had the opportunity to tour the automated and manual blood sciences departments on levels 1 and 2 of the building. HSL’s state of the art GLP track – the most complex tracking configuration in the world – proved to be a popular talking point.

It was a privilege to host such an enthusiastic, inspiring and interesting cohort of young scientists, and we’re looking forward to seeing more from them in the future.

HSL is a progressive partnership between The Doctors Laboratory, Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust (the Royal Free London) and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH)
