Advanced Cancer Diagnostics Meeting

20 Feb, 2019

Last September, the HSL Advanced Diagnostics (AD) laboratory hosted the very first service and user group meeting on advanced cancer diagnostics.

The HSL-AD laboratory is a specialist clinical and research referral laboratory providing immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridisation, molecular and digital pathology services to hospitals throughout the UK and overseas. As a major referral centre for lymphoma, breast, gastrointestinal and lung cancers, the meeting was a fantastic opportunity for customers to learn more about the work of HSL-AD laboratory and the techniques involved.

Over 40 people attended the meeting, including biomedical scientists, pathologists, oncologists and managers from laboratories across London, the South East and beyond. A series of lectures from UCLH consultants and scientists covered a diverse range of topics, including HPV testing in non-cervical cancers, lung cancer biomarker pathways, Prosigna breast cancer testing and updates from UKNEQAS ICC and ISH. This was followed by an opportunity to network over food and drinks.

“The evening went really well,” says David Allen, Head of HSL-AD. “We’re doing some really exciting work within the advanced diagnostics lab and it was a privilege to be able to share some of that with our clients. New methods of molecular analysis are becoming an integral part of cancer diagnosis and treatment. We’re hoping for this kind of information evening to become an annual event so that all our users are kept up to date with the latest developments in the field.”

HSL is a progressive partnership between The Doctors Laboratory, Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust (the Royal Free London) and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH)
