An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Biomedical Scientist position, providing maternity cover in the department of Clinical Parasitology in Central London.

The successful candidate must be HCPC registered as either Clinical Scientist or Biomedical Scientist. The candidate should have experience in molecular biological techniques such as PCR (both conventional and real time) for the diagnosis of infectious diseases. Previous experience of Parasitology is unnecessary although a background knowledge would be helpful.

The position holder will have the responsibility to provide a professional clinical diagnostic parasitology service for the benefit of patients, users and staff within the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, as well as to other hospitals, Trusts, Public Health England laboratories and the National Blood Service.

The Biomedical Scientist must use a combination of knowledge and skills to ensure that the appropriate testing is performed safely, accurately and in a timely manner on each sample received.

Standard working day of 7.5 hours (Monday to Friday), with potential for paid on call work (Nights, Saturday or Sunday once per week – one session per week) if the person develops sufficient skill to do “on Call Malaria Diagnosis”.

The laboratory is situated in central London, has full UKAS accreditation and offers a pleasant working environment with excellent staff facilities.
