Within HSL’s Halo building the molecular suite has virologists, microbiologists, parasitologists and molecular geneticists, working together on the same floor as part of the molecular division and sharing what we understand about DNA. Staff from what were twenty different laboratories will come together to consult on findings, insights and ideas, from viruses, microbes and pathogens to cancer and inherited disorders, to create an environment that promotes learning and development.
We’ll be able to expand the work we do in companion diagnostics so that we can more accurately match an individual’s, or pathogens, genetic make-up to the drug that will provide most benefit.
Such teamwork will lift, push and inspire us all. And, instead of looking at things through the lens of a single speciality, we’ll be able to switch to and learn from other disciplines seamlessly. Medicine crosses all biological boundaries but, in a laboratory setting, it can sometimes be difficult to bring people together and work out how to solve issues and diseases. That’s why we are different.
