In early January 2026, the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) assessed all of Sonic Healthcare UK’s clinical aspects against international standard ISO 15189:2022.
This approach to group-wide assessment had never been taken before in healthcare for both UKAS and Sonic Healthcare UK. The scope of assessment included all 28 UKAS schedules at once across our legal entities.
The assessment took place over a two-week period and, despite the pressure of accommodating such a large review in a short period of time, the result was a resounding success! The assessors were hugely impressed and extremely complimentary about the degree of clinical engagement and the quality of our clinical services.
UKAS trialed this approach with Sonic Healthcare UK as they felt our clinical framework was robust and mature enough to handle this type of scope. This is a testament to our reputation as a medically led organisation and how well our laboratories and services are run.
This achievement means that over the next two years, the UKAS planned assessment schedule will not need to include the clinical governance of Sonic Healthcare UK.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr Rachael Liebmann OBE said, “This success reflects the quality of the Consultant input and the Sonic medical leadership model in the UK.”
