The Essential Services Laboratory (ESL) at Whittington Health NHS Trust is officially open!
On Monday 23 March 2026, senior colleagues at both Sonic Healthcare UK and the Trust were joined by the pathology staff to commemorate the new laboratory.
Health Services Laboratories Chair, Lord Carter of Coles, was invited to cut the ribbon and opened the proceedings followed by remarks from Whittington Health CEO, Selina Douglas. Both speakers highlighted the vital contribution the staff make in supporting the hospital to serve the local community.
The new laboratory is equipped with the most up-to-date technology, and receives over 14,000 requests per week, equating to around 100,000 individual tests.
Over 70 colleagues work within the lab, including 54 who moved over from the NHS. We are proud that three team members have progressed into promoted roles, demonstrating our commitment to career growth.
